An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accredited Exercise Physiologist to join the Outpatient Physiotherapy Services team at Macquarie University Health in a fixed term capacity (Open to full-time and part-time hours) Working within our specialist medical and multidisciplinary programs, you will be responsible for the continued development and provision of high-quality exercise physiology services to patients with a range of complex and chronic health and lifestyle-related conditions.

You will work alongside leading medical and allied health clinicians across programs including the Endocrinology-led multidisciplinary Healthy Weight Clinic, Cardiology services and Oncology programs. Beyond clinical practice, you will have the opportunity to contribute to teaching programs within Macquarie University's Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, and to participate in research and quality improvement initiatives that directly shape the future of exercise physiology and allied health services.

About the Role

Reporting to the Lead Physiotherapist - Outpatient Services, you will provide expert exercise physiology services within Macquarie University Health's integrated clinical programs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-quality, evidence-based exercise physiology services to patients as a primary healthcare provider and/or upon referral from medical practitioners and other clinicians.
  • Developing, prescribing and supervising individualised exercise programs for patients with chronic, complex and lifestyle-related conditions.
  • Performing screening and physiological/functional assessments to ensure safety and appropriateness of exercise interventions.
  • Providing education, counselling and health promotion to patients and healthcare professionals in relation to exercise and physical activity.
  • Liaising and coordinating with medical, nursing and allied health colleagues to deliver holistic, multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Accurately recording patient data and preparing clinical reports within electronic medical record systems.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical handover, case conferences and transfer-of-care planning.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements and innovations within the exercise physiology service in line with contemporary evidence-based practice.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Exercise Physiology and current accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP).
  • Eligibility for a Medicare Provider Number for exercise physiology services.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise providing exercise physiology services to patients with chronic and complex health conditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to build rapport and empathise with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, evidence-based and patient-centred clinical practice, with a capacity for creativity and innovation in service development and delivery.
  • Commitment to contributing to education, training and research within an academic health environment.
